Mamluk Arabic Tarot Cards or Playing Cards MULULK WANUWWAB

The pack seen here was printed in 1972, in a limited edition of 750.
This one is numbered 178.
It is an Arabic Pack of Mamluk Playing Cards which he commissioned Cart Mundi to print 750 examples in 1972. 
The pack comes complete in the original leather or leatherette covered two part slip case black box and inside there are: Complete set of 56 cards printed on strong glossy board and measuring 77 by 300 mms.

The gold coloured booklet entitled MULUK WANUWWAB. 62 pages giving the history of European/Aravbic Playing Cards and this pack.

The cards measure 58 by 86 mms (2.25 x3.3 inches).

"The Mamluk Playing Cards" were discovered at the Topkapi museum in Istanbul by L.A.Mayer, who in 1939 wrote a treatise on this deck which was reproduced by Jan. We can call the Mamluk cards a prototype of the European playing card and therefore one of the first steps leading to the development of the tarot pack, as we know it today. In 1972 a reproduction and reconstruction pack of the Mamluk cards was published by Aurelia Books of Belgium.
